The AMHA Early Childhood Initiative has three parts: Family Events, Home Visitation, and Mom-ME Time.  Home visitation includes the evidence-based Parents as Teachers program for children ages 0-3 and the SPARK program for children ages 3-4.

Family Events

At ECI family events, kids have a blast playing  with children their age and parents have a chance to connect with community resources that will benefit their family.  There are holiday events, animal shows, concerts, picnics, and more!

Events are held in the Honey Locust, Joy Park, Pinewood Gardens, Summit Lake, Valley View and Van Buren neighborhoods and are open to all AMHA and Summit Lake families with children under 5.

Parents as Teachers

You can choose to learn more about child development from your Child & Family Partner. Each month, you can discover new ways to help your kids grow and learn. You are, after all, their first and most important teacher!

SPARK is a FREE program that helps 3 and 4 year old children get ready for kindergarten. This program includes home visits provided by a trained Parent Partner and free books and activitiess each month.

Children must be eligible to attend one of the following schools: Crouse CLC, David Hill CLC, Glover CLC, Leggett CLC, Mason CLC, McEbright CLC, Robinson CLC, Rimer CLC, Pfeiffer CLC, or Sam Salem CLC in Akron; or Barberton City Schools.

Mom-ME Time

Sometimes Mom needs a breather.  Take some time for yourself to connect with other moms and share the joys and woes of parenting!

Meetings just for moms with kids under 5 happen regularly at  Joy Park, Pinewood Gardens, Summit Lake, Valley View and Van Buren.

Bring the family: childcare and meals are provided!
